Buried beneath the jungle in Mexico is an eerie subterranean world of submerged caves that remain virtually unexplored. Beneath the lush greenery of the Yucatan Peninsula the world's largest underwater cave systems exist. Over the past few years multi award-winning photographer and scientist Klaus Thymann has been braving these mystical blue depths to go to places that have never been visited by man before. Access to the water is through an extremely narrow, ten-meter deep shaft located in the middle of the jungle. Once through this unassuming shaft it opens up into a breathtaking cave of crystal clear turquoise waters and stunning natural formations. During his most recent expedition Klaus and his partner Alex Reato discovered fully intact Mayan crockery suggesting that they once collected fresh water from here.

Cats are always up to mischief...whether it is scratching curtains, knocking things over or sitting on top of your work. However, these loveable furry-friends are forever capturing the hearts of their human friends.

Photographer Mikael Theimer has captured a series of photos showing the beautiful chaos of living with four cats called Gribouille, Django, Moo and Aragon.

Mikael said: "I've been a full time photographer for the past two years, and my speciality is to photograph life as it happens. And when you live with four cats, you've got tons of opportunities to take pictures of them! I rarely posted any of them online though, because I focus more on street photography."

Photographer Dave Stevenson took these stunning night-time images during a recent visit to the Natural Bridges State Park. Hiking out into the Utah park one night - with his trusty head torch and camera - he was confronted with a stunning vista as stars filled the sky. However, he wasn't the only creature enjoying the spectacular view as his solo hike caused him to cross paths with a couple of mountain lions! However, it all proved worth it when he was able to take these breath-taking shots of some of the beautiful arches that help give the park its name. He captured landmarks such as the Delicate Arch and the Owachomo bridge silhouetted against a night sky crammed full of stars. Both of these arches are naturally formed and have been created over thousands of years thanks to erosion.

A designer has created a unique jewellery range that places a 'miniature world' inside a clear-ring.

German-designer Isabell Kiefhabe spends several hours carefully creating miniature designs, which are encased in a see-through ring.

Isabell said: "I really like to place ordinary objects, that generally nobody pays attention to, into jewels. In addition, I add materials like gold-leaf, silver or pearls to make the pieces eye-catching."

In the pictures, tiny objects, such as an origami bird, a swimming scene and a mermaid can be seen encased inside a clear-ring.

The intricate work can take up to several hours to make one design.

Talented French photographer Julien Grondin, known as 'Beboy', has spent the last few years travelling the world to capture stunning images of sunrises and sunsets.

His travels have taken him from the lavender fields of Provence, France, to the majestic temples of Angkor Wat, Cambodia, through to the dramatic cityscapes of Hong Kong, China.

In his images sunrise and sunset can be seen illuminating the skies.

Other images show different settings in Paris, Fjords in Loften, Norway, and the Twelve Apostle rock formation in Australia.

Beboy, 35, said: "I spent the past three years travelling the world to try and capture the beauty of nature at sunrise and sunset. I visited many countries to live my passion for photography especially to capture light at both dawn and dusk when the sun is more likely to hit straight into his camera lens and create unique backlit shots.

    Earthquake hits Nepal - 28 Apr 2015
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck Nepal shortly before midday on 25th April, 2015, bringing widespread destruction to property and the loss of over 6,000 lives (as at 29th April). Many tens of thousands of homes were destroyed in the initial earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, leaving many homeless and without access to food and clean water. Rescue and aid efforts were hampered by the difficult terrain and remote locations of those affected. The UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur suffered severe damage, with many temples and shrines destroyed. UNICEF reported that over one million children had been severely affected. The 2015 earthquake was the most severe in Nepal since 1934.

Anyone who has been to Alaska will testify to its untamed beauty. Photographer Tim Plowden's visit to the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska and its annual salmon migration struck him with "revelatory awe". He comments: "Witnessing thousands of Pacific pink salmon was a spell-binding spectacle of sight, smell and sound. Their story enthralled me - a final selfless journey". According to Tim his first sighting of the salmon migration was shared with a bearded old man. Possibly intrigued by his fascination, as Tim watched the aquatic scene unfold before him the old man shared insights from his long years as a local fishing guide into the salmon's odyssey. Tim says: "It only intrigued me further and sealed my resolution to pay tribute to this remarkable fish on its last journey back to its natal rivers. Their final resting place".

Captain Kevin Oprey is seen standing beneath the soaring hull of Cunard's flagship Queen Mary 2, the largest and most expensive Ocean Liner ever built, a mile off the coast of Bali during the ship's Round World Voyage in its 10th anniversary year. Captain Oprey surveys the scene from the top of the vessel's bulbous bow, an underwater projection that minimises the creation of bow waves around the waterline when the ship is under way. At 151,200 tons, Queen Mary 2 accommodates 2,620 passengers and 1,253 crew. In her first 10 years of operation, following a spectacular naming by Her Majesty The Queen on 8 January 2004, Queen Mary 2 has undertaken more than 420 voyages including over 200 transatlantic crossings and called at 182 ports in 60 countries. She remains the longest, tallest, widest ocean liner ever built as well as being the most famous and fastest passenger ship in operation today.

Could this be the greatest iPhone picture ever taken?

A stunning snap taken a passenger on a Chicago-bound flight has captured the city silhouetted in Lake Michigan.

Plane enthusiast and amateur photographer Mark Hersch captured the jaw-dropping scene as the passenger jet he was on made a final approach to the city.

The late-afternoon image shows the low sun casting a golden glow on the water, which is visible beneath cloud cover.

The buildings of the Windy City cast long shadows out into the water - while closer inspection reveals another passenger jet near the centre of the picture.

Mark says the image is straight out of the camera, without use of image manipulation.

"I only wish I'd had my good camera on hand that day. Still, it is one of my favourite images I've ever shot."

Top Guns: The Best U.S. Air Force Pictures of 2013

These stunning images show a year in the life of the largest air force in the world.

The United States Air Force has operations all over the world and enlisted photographers are there to capture the action.

The service's specialist Airman magazine has curated the most impactful imagery from 2013 for a special issue entitled 'Year in Visuals'.

As would be expected, the gallery features awesome images of aircraft, but there are also personal military stories including a striking image of Capt. Candice Adams Ismirle preparing for cancer radiation treatment, while Staff Sgt. Ron Blodgett is shown in tears as he embraces his son after returning from a deployment in Southwest Asia.

Managing editor Tech. Sgt. Chris Powell explains: "We pride ourselves on publishing the powerful imagery and videos Air Force photographers and broadcasters produce every day. These professionals travel the world, sometimes putting themselves in harm's way, to bring you the visual story from an Airman's perspective.

"Our goal is to make you feel as close to the story as possible, being right there with Airmen providing security in Afghanistan, a team of Airmen hiking the highest mountains on Earth or showcasing the Air Force's many aircraft conducting operations throughout the world...

Couple Discover Anglo Saxon Bodies Buried Beneath Patio
A shocked couple were forced to halt the extension of their home after making the grizzly discovery of four bodies under their patio.

But fortunately for Stephen and Nicky West the bones are actually part of an Anglo Saxon burial ground that's over 1,000 years old.

The couple have lived at their home in Ratley in south Warwickshire for nearly seven years without realising what lurked beneath their patio.

They were having their home redeveloped when one of the builders unearthed the remains.

Stephen, 55, said: "The builder knocked on the window and said 'Stephen, I think there's something you need to see'.

"He had a skull in his hand and I thought 'oh my goodness'."

According to Stephen, at first he thought the bodies were casualties of the battle of Edgehill, which took place nearby at the start of the English Civil War in 1642.

He said: "It was funny because when we started the work on the house people said 'you'll probably find bones in the garden from the civil war'".

In actual fact tests have now revealed that the bones, which were discovered last year, are in fact much older.

After the bodies were unearthed, Stephen and Nicky informed Warwickshire County Council's archaeologists of their find.

Archaeology Warwickshire's manager Stuart Palmer visited the site and an intrigued Stephen and Nicky commissioned him to test the bones.

They were taken away first to Gloucester University and then to York University for testing by experts.

Though the remains were discovered in autumn last year the service has only recently released the test results.

The archaeologists identified the remains of at least four people, including two adult females, a young male and a juvenile aged between 10 and 12.

    Ultraviolet Undersea Life
A new collection of photographs capture the beauty of underwater life.

Award-winning photographer Louise Murray has spent the majority of her years travelling the globe documenting awesome scenery and wildlife from every country she has visited.

During that time she has often dived underwater to photograph marine creatures amongst the coral reef.

Her latest collection was captured while diving in the dark waters of Tondoba Bay in the Red Sea of Egypt.

The fluorescent images occur when near an ultraviolet torch.

Highlights include a giant clam that appears dull under natural light but glows bright red under the blue hue; a pipefish hunting at night glows orange and camouflaged fish made visible by the ultraviolet torch reveal their florescent green pigment making them known to their prey.

In comparison to the muted browns, golds, pinks and blues of a coral reef during the daytime "it looks like Oxford Street at Christmas," says Louise.

The wildlife photographer uses a powerful blue light to stimulate photosensitive pigments in the marine life, which then emit fluorescent colours.

Louise explains: "Almost all these photographs were shot after dark as the sunlight masks the colours.

"The stronger the light the better the results, I have to filter my camera and eyes with a yellow mask so the true colours are revealed.

    "It can be very exciting...

    Jeepers Cheepers
A couple from Wales have been shocked to discover four baby blackbirds nesting beneath the bonnet of their car.

Curious Maureen Morris popped the hood of her Suzuki 4x4 when she noticed her dog Scooby taking an unusual interest in the vehicle.

To her surprise she and husband Sam discovered a nest complete with four hungry blackbird chicks nestled next to the engine.

She said: "They already had lovely black feathers and bright orange beaks.

"It was a complete shock. I've never seen anything like this before."

The couple believe that the chicks have been in situ for weeks, managing to survive regular drives around Maureen and Sam's hometown of Porthcawl.

During that time Maureen even undertook a 100-mile trip to Ynysybwl in order to attend a friend's wedding.

Since finding the chicks Maureen and Sam have spotted their dedicated parents regularly hopping under the car with a beakful of food for their brood.

Maureen says she has no plans to move the birds, and will simply wait until they are ready to fly away by themselves.

According to Kirsi Peck from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) blackbirds look for somewhere "hidden and safe" when constructing a nest.

He added that the youngsters beneath the Morris' bonnet are close to fledging and will soon be flying their rather unusual nest.

    Head Over Heels In Love
This unlucky springbok had a nasty tumble after challenging a love rival to a fight.

The clumsy creature had taken on a much older ram in a spat over territory during mating season.

But it wasn't long before he was shown who was boss.

In one impressive move, he was lifted from the ground and flipped in the air before being sent back down to earth with a crash.

Neither was physically hurt during the battle at the Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa, but the younger springbok's pride was certainly bruised.

After being defeated he turned and ran with his tail between his legs.

These incredible action shots were captured by 30-year-old Jaco Becker, a head ranger at the game reserve.

He said: "The two animals where having a fight over territory. Some of the ewes have come into season and these two were fighting for the specific territory involved.

"The one that got flipped into the air was a younger male who just came into sexual maturity and he challenged the older, more dominant male for supremacy.

"It was a very intense fight but at long last the older more experienced male prevailed.

"The young challenger got flipped when he was pushed to the side and the older male managed to get his horns in underneath his belly.

"He was not hurt physically but from that end on the momentum of the fight had turned and soon the younger one gave up and ran away.

"I have seen many animals fight before but this specific springbok fight was probably one of the most ferocious and long lasting fights I have ever seen between these animals.

"The whole episode lasted about ten minutes, I was actually tired after just watching those two."

He added: "Living with all these amazing animals from day to day inspired me to get in to photography.

    "I am always trying to...

    You're Having A Giraffe Mate!
The perils of having long legs were made clear when these two giraffes got themselves into something of a muddle.

The pair found themselves taking part in an extraordinary looking acrobatic routine while fighting over mating rights.

In order to show their dominance giraffes will attempt to subdue a rival by engaging in a bizarre duel-like fight.

During the battle each animal tries to exert his authority by using their neck to strike out at their love rival and knock them off their feet.

But in this instance the giraffes went to extra lengths to push their opponent to the ground.

At one point during the fight one even ducked under his rival in a bid to lift his leg from the floor.

What followed was a comedic ballet performance as the giraffe attempted to keep his balance while his leg was pushed to an awkward height.

The incredible spectacle was captured by Myburgh Kennekam while on a trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa.

The 55-year-old said: "When I saw one nearly topple over I started to take special notice because I've never seen this before.

"It looked like they were trying to push each other over. I assume it was part of the duelling behaviour.

"I watched this for around half an hour. There wasn't a lot of noise apart from the sound of their hooves hitting the ground.

"Neither of them appeared to be injured by it all.

"This was the first time I have seen this kind of behaviour and I have seen giraffes in many game parks in Africa."

Wildlife expert Jannie Kriel, a fielding guide at the park, explained that the pictures showed a very serious fight for mating rights between two adult male giraffes.

He added: "Giraffes are not territorial so they will not fight for territories but they will fight f...
