See Ross Parry story RPYGYMNAST; Former Olympic gymnast from Leeds continues to perform gravity-defying routines at the age of 84 - and she can even do the SPLITS. A former Olympic gymnast proves age is no barrier as she continues to perform gravity-defying gymnastics routines at the age of 84 - she can even do the SPLITS. Marjorie Carter, a grandmother-of-five, competed for Great Britain at the 1952 and 1960 Games in Helsinki and Rome before going on to coach the sport. Amazingly, the octogenarian refused to let old age slow her down and can still perform cartwheels, stand on her head and aims to be still doing the splits when she’s a 100. Inspiringly Marjorie has maintained her Olympian training standards and trains three times a week in the gym - regularly starting her workouts at 6am. She is now hoping to encourage other elderly people to remain active and independent. Marjorie first took up gymnastics at the relatively late age of 10, then just eight years later was selected for the Olympic women's squad. Marjorie, from Bradford, West Yorks., said: “Being selected to represent my country was truly exhilarating. “It was such an honour and those memories of the opening ceremony will last a lifetime. “Everyone is always blown away when I tell them my story so that's always nice to share.” *** Local Caption *** / action press

Delighted Elsie Freakley wanted to ride a horse when she lived on a farm as a young girl - but her family could never afford one. But thanks to a close friend and the Riding for the Disabled Association, the 101-year-old finally sat in the saddle for the first time. After being tenderly helped on to her horse Jack, a smiling Elsie enjoyed trotting around a few laps of an indoor section of The Mill Riding Centre in Pattingham, West Midlands.) [The lowest of the low: Woman caught on CCTV 'stealing flowers from schoolboy's grave' after family were forced to install camera in cemetery tree

These are the shocking pictures that appear to show a vile woman stealing from the grave of a schoolboy.
The family of the 11-year-old, who was killed by a car in 1980, installed a CCTV camera at the cemetery in Barking, Essex, after repeated thefts of gifts they had left there.
They were horrified when the footage seemed to show a woman callously taking flowerpots from the youngster's grave and shoving them into her handbag.
Steve Rose, the dead boy's cousin, set up the motion sensor camera in a tree at Rippleside Cemetery after the devastated family's tributes of ornaments and flowers disappeared every fortnight for 18 months.
Mr Rose, 37, said: 'I was only six when he died. My aunt, who died two years ago, never got over it.
'That's why it's such a terrible thing for us.'
The grieving family had begged the thieves to stop, but were ignored.
London cab driver Mr Rose, of Walthamstow, added: 'We have left signs asking them to stop stealing but that didn't deter them. It's just callous.'
A Met Police spokeswoman said: 'Police are appealing for information concerning the identity of the woman pictured.
'She is wanted for questioning by police in connection with the theft of floral tributes from graves in Rippleside Cemetery.
'Police do understand that thefts of this type are hugely distressing for relatives.'
Mr Rose said cemetery staff had allowed him to install the camera. Barking and Dagenham Council said thefts from its cemetery were 'rare' and promised to co-operate with police.
But a spokesman refused to comment on the woman caught in Mr Rose's photos.] (FOTO: DUKAS/ACTIONPRESS)

[The lowest of the low: Woman caught on CCTV 'stealing flowers from schoolboy's grave' after family were forced to install camera in cemetery tree
