Award Winning Photos Show Soldiers At Work And Play
A stirring collection of award-winning army photos show Britain's soldiers at work and play.
The pictures in the annual Army Photographic Competition have been taken by amateur and professional soldier cameramen.
They show troops in frontline action, on ceremonial occasions and taking part in sport.
Many have been snapped in Afghanistan, while others have been taken on training exercises at home in the UK.
The overall winning image shows a soldier smiling at four little children in Afghanistan and has been taken by Sergeant Rupert Frere.
Other winning photos include a search dog in Afghanistan, a soldier cuddling a stray dog, army boxing and the blues and royals horses on holiday from ceremonial duties in London.
Another photo features a soldier sitting on his bed in Afghanistan, reading a letter from home, while others show guardsmen adjusting their dress, mortar fire and the parachute regiment training in the water.
The winners were all invited to a special award ceremony at the Imperial War Museum in London, which also marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the British Army Film and Photographic Unit.
This was responsible for filming and photographing the Army's most significant campaigns of the Second World War.
The winning shots are now on display at the Imperial War Museum in London.
