England football team arriving at Luton Airport after their exit from the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Britain - 25 Jun 2014
Only a handful of England fans turned up at Luton Airport today to welcome the defeated England football squad back home after they were knocked out of the World Cup. The dejected team looked weary as they arrived home after drawing 0-0 with Costa Rica last night in their last match of their worst ever tournament. The England team scored just two goals in the tournament - their worst goal tally since 1950 - and it is the first time since 1958 they have failed to reach the knockout stage. A fleet of Mercedes then collected the footballers from the plane and took them back to their homes. Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were among the last to leave as they had to wait at the end for their X-Boxes, which they had taken as extra luggage.
