STUDIO - Bush Theatre in London
Artistic director Madani Younis today claimed the Bush Theatre is the only venue in London "delivering on diversity" as the building prepares to reopen following a £4.3 million expansion and a pledge that at least half of its work will come from ethnic minority writers. The Bush returns to its refurbished home in Uxbridge Road from Saturday following a year at pop-up locations in Shepherd’s Bush. Architecture firm Haworth Tompkins has expanded the main auditorium, added a studio space of 60 to 70 seats, renovated rehearsal and dressing rooms and created an alfresco bar and dining area. The new season will launch with Black Lives, Black Words, a series of short plays inspired by Black Lives Matter, before the European premiere of US playwright Rajiv Joseph’s Guards At The Taj in a production directed by Jamie Lloyd.
