88-year-old Misao and her odd-eyed kitten Fukumaru
Purrfect Pals: Grandma And Odd-Eyed Cat Are Inseparable
Nine years ago, photographer Miyoko Ihara began snapping pictures of the budding relationship between her now 88-year-old grandmother and her odd-eyed kitten.
Miyoko's grandma, Misao who also lives in Chiba, Japan found the abandoned cat in a shed on her land and the pair have barely been apart since.
Misao named the white cat "Fukumaru" in hope the "God of fuku (good fortune) comes and everything will be smoothed over like maru (circle)".
Fukumaru is always in Misao's shadow whether she is farming her land, having a bath, eating or sleeping.
Now nearly a decade later their friendship and adventures have been documented by Miyoko in a photo book called 'Misao the Big Mama and Fukumaru the Cat'.
The 30-year-old photographer said: "My grandmother and her cat are always together.
"Even though she is 88-years-old she still go out into the fields' everyday and Fukumaru always accompanies her.
"My grandmother's hearing has become weak and Fukumaru who also has hearing disabilities are always looking into each others eyes and feeling each others warmth."
The pair have become increasingly popular in Japan with the unlikely bestseller flying off the shelves and becoming a viral sensation across the world.
Highlights of the book include the feline accompanying Misao while she takes a bath; sitting on her owners shoulders while Misao works on her land as well as helping her companion to cook.
The duo have even dressed up in seasonal outfits - Misao as Father Christmas and Fukumaru as her reindeer.
