Kupiansk trembles as Russian forces close in again
Russia's apparent plan is to flatten then reoccupy the Ukrainian city, where the situation has become dramatically worse since the beginning of October.
Russian combat units are now less than two miles from Kupiansk, Ukraine.
In recent weeks, however, the Russians have been advancing. Across the frontline, Ukrainian defences are crumbling at the fastest rate since 2022.

The house was since then demolised. Hila Rotem Shoshani (then 12) invited her friend Emily Hand (then 8) for a sleepover. On October 7, early in the morning they all woke up to the sounds of the Hamas attack on Israel. For about 6 hours Rotem-Shoshani family with Emily hid in the home's safe room while Hamas attacked the Kibbutz. Then Hamas militants broke into their house with guns and knives, and took the three to a car, passing on the way the horrors of the attack - dead bodies, burnt cars and houses. Hila and Emily were two of more than 30 children kidnapped by Hamas to Gaza that day. Emily was thought to be dead for a while until the news of her being alive in Gaza arrived.
