People are raving about the latest trend to take pet lovers by storm ? dog onesies. And the inventor, Aileen Toynton, from Elgin in Moray is working ?eight days a week? to keep up with the demand from Tasmania to Canada, from the USA to Switzerland and from the UK to the Middle East. The hair-brained idea came from sheer desperation ? because Aileen was unable to find a garment that kept her American Cocker Spaniel, Toto, warm, dry and still able to run about. In a bid to keep her best pal comfortable, the former court shorthand writer ? who had never touched a sewing machine before ? enrolled in an evening class to learn to sew. Now her made-to-measure doggy clothing range also includes a lightweight K9 CleanCoat for dogs with skin allergies and a special Kevlar coat ? the same material used to make bullet and stab-proof vests ? for thrill seeking motor cycle riding dogs.
