The World of Charles Dickens book by Stephen Browning - Jan 2012
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Stephen Browning / Rex Features (1533651j)
Covent Garden. Tom and Ruth wander here happily in Martin Chuzzlewit. David buys Dora flowers here in David Copperfield. In real life Dickens would sometimes rent rooms here as his offices in Wellington Street were a few minutes away.
Book Explores The World of Charles Dickens
With the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens' birth commemorated on 7th February, a new book delves deep into the characters and locations featured in his classic works.
The World of Charles Dickens by Stephen Browning sees the author embark on a fascinating literary adventure throughout Britain.
His journey is illuminated by over 200 photographs taken especially for the book of locations in London, Kent, Yorkshire, the Midlands, the South of England, the West Country and East Anglia.
They include well-known locations including what is thought to be the Old Curiosity Shop in London, Dickens beloved sea-facing Bleak House in Broadstairs and the writer's London home in Holborn.
There are also trips to Rochester, the setting for Great Expectations and The Pickwick Papers, and The Lizard in Cornwall where Dickens would enjoy inspiring walks.
The pictures were shot over the course of a year and represent a reflection of Stephen Browning's lifelong admiration for Dickens.
Dickens is perhaps best known for bringing to life areas of London and parts of the capital are still evocative of his characters and storylines.
Stephen explains: "It is hard to choose a favourite location but maybe the Strand, where he walked both as a boy and as a man up to his offices in Wellington Street. I always see him here striding purposely in his flamboyant waistcoats.
"He was very famous and people would often double back to get another look at him. Or around the Bank of England where Scrooge would prowl. Smithfield too is one of his favourite loc...

Toyah Willcox at her home in Pershore, Worcestershire, Britain - 06 Jun 2011

Toyah Willcox: An Unusual Home For A Punk Princess
Considering their backgrounds former punk Toyah Willcox and her guitar hero husband's home isn't what you would expect.
For Toyah and her husband Robert Fripp, who have been married for 25 years, live in genteel splendour in a Georgian-fronted townhouse in Pershore, Worcestershire.
Back in the 80s Toyah, now 53, was a loud and proud punk - all pink spiky hair and orange lipstick.
As well as starring in such films as 'Quadrophenia', she was also a regular in the Top 10 with songs such as 'It's A Mystery' and 'I Want To Be Free'.
Meanwhile, Robert, 65, was named the 42nd best guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine and has contributed to more than 1,100 releases.
However, a glance around the refined surroundings of their drawing room and you would never guess at these wild pasts.
The couple, who have invested heavily in property over the years, first saw their current home in 2001 while cruising down the Avon River.
They spotted the 'for sale' sign at the bottom of the garden while enjoying a river cruise on a boat owned by Toyah's father.
Once they returned home curiosity prompted them to call the estate agent and arrange a viewing, just to be nosy.
The minute they stepped inside the elegant five-storey townhouse knew they simply had to have it.
But it couldn't have come at a worse time as the couple had just recently bought a different property.
However, knowing that Toyah had fallen in love with the Pershore house, and without telling her, Robert arranged a 100% loan and brought it.
Today, the house drips with antiques and refined d (FOTO:DUKAS/REX)

Euthalia aconthea gurda (Common Baron) caterpillar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - 2010

Can You See Me... The Caterpillar That Thinks It's a Leaf
CAN YOU SEE ME? THE CATERPILLAR THAT THINKS IT'S A LEAF
Can you be-leaf it - this picture of some foliage hides a hungry CATERPILLAR.
Wildlife fan Conny Sandland was puzzled when evidence suggested leaves on her mango tree were being eaten.
The German expat living in Kuala Lumpur says: "It was obvious something was taking bites out of my tree as the leaves were disappearing.
"In fact the mystery went on for a number of days before I spotted a flicker of unusual movement on one leaf.
"I was startled when I looked closer as there was a caterpillar almost completely blending into the pattern of the leaf.
"I have investigated and I believe it is the caterpillar of the Common Baron butterfly, because I saw this species in my garden before."
The Common Baron caterpillar feeds on mango trees and cashew nuts during its larvae stage, using remarkable camouflage to hide from predators by seemingly disappearing into foliage. Once metamorphosed it transforms into a light brown butterfly.

Wildthing, the Tame Buffalo who lives with the Bridges family in Texas, America - 2008

Ronald Bridges with his tame Buffalo called Wildthing, going out the house into the garden.
The Best Buffalo
THE BEST BUFFALO
When a groom chooses his best man, it is usually a difficult choice.
But not for Ronald Bridges - he knew exactly who he wanted to fill the role.
His tame buffalo Wildthing stepped in to perform the all important role on the renewal of his wedding vows to wife Sherron - although at a staggering 90 stone, he towered over them both.
And Sherron had no objection - Wildthing has lived with them and their three children Lloyd, 34, Will, 15, and Taylor, 13, at their family home in Quinlan, Texas, since he was born in May 2005.
The couple have brought up Wildthing as part of the family and, despite him weighing the equivalent of eight humans, he has free run of the house and even has his own room in the house where he eats and sleeps.
Mrs Bridges, who runs a ranching business with her husband, said: "Wildthing is a real pussycat at heart.
'He and Ronald are absolutely devoted to each other. We are always aware that he is so big that he could hurt us with a swing of his head, so we are careful.
'But Wildthing absolutely dotes on Ronald - that's why he chose him to be his best man when we renewed our wedding vows. Wildthing follows him round like a shadow."
Mr Bridges, 60, decided to tame the buffalo when he was just a calf, soon after his birth.
Mrs Bridges, 36, said: 'Ronald has been training cattle all his life and he really wanted to tame this little buffalo calf.
'So using a halter harness and with the help of our son Lloyd, Wildthing was soon loving all the attention, and he really focused all his attentions on Ronald.
'When he was tame we decided that he really deserved a room in our house where he could come in a...
