Opening of the new Suez Canal extension, Egypt - 06 Aug 2015
The latest addition to the canal comes in at 35 kilometers of new canal and the widening of a further 37 kilometers of old canal, was completed in under a year, with an estimated cost of 8.5 billion US dollars once additional projects are completed, and was opened to shipping 06 August. According to the Egyptian Government the additional chanel cuts journey times from an estimated 18-14 hours to 11 hours, making it the fastest shipping lane of its kind worldwide, and will double revenue by 2023, though their figures have been widely disputed by international economists.
