Migrants Leave The French Coast On A Rubber Boat Towards The UK
A small rubber boat with migrants leaves the French coast towards the English Channel in the dawn before the sunrise while a French SAR search and rescue vessels follows the dinghy to the French UK sea borders. Hundreds of small boats with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants have crossed the English Channel the past weeks while smugglers overload the boats with people and the French police is witnessing while sometimes intervenes. The UK and France began working on a rule, the one-in, one-out. According to the official data from the UK Home Office on August 15, 2x boats arrived illegally in the UK with 116 people. • Six-metre waves, strong currents, small boats: why thousands brave the Mona Passage to Puerto Rico.

Six-metre waves, strong currents, small boats: why thousands brave the Mona Passage to Puerto Rico.
Although 43% of Puerto Ricans live in poverty, many from the Dominican Republic see the US territory as a land of opportunity. But is it worth the risk?

It is impossible to know how many undocumented people there are in Puerto Rico. According to census figures, the Dominican population - the largest immigrant group on the island - was 58,352 in 2021; close to 60% were women. A 2023 report by the Dominican Studies Institute at City College of New York estimated the real number to be closer to 80,000.

A migrant boat in the coast of Aguadilla after a flight of the United States Coast Guard over the Mona Passage in P.R., on January 9, 2024. The USCG offers humanitarian aid for stranded or capsized boats of migrants who arrive to the shores of Puerto Rico. At times they offer aid to migrants stranded in the arid Mona Island when boats, or yolas, land there. Mona Island is a natural reserve.

The USCG offers humanitarian aid for stranded or capsized boats of migrants who arrive to the shores of Puerto Rico. At times they offer aid to migrants stranded in the arid Mona Island when boats, or yolas, land there. Mona Island is a natural reserve.
