Sportswear company Nike has unveiled what it calls the world’s first powered footwear system for running and walking.
It is designed to help anyone go a little bit faster and farther with less effort.
The Project Amplify system is engineered to augment natural lower leg and ankle movement.
That promises a boost to anyone who wants to move whether running, jogging and walking.
It was created by the Nike Sport Research Lab using motion algorithms.
It consists of a lightweight motor, drive belt, and rechargeable battery that integrates with a carbon fibre–plated running shoe that can be worn with or without the robotics system.
This makes it easier for anyone to walk or run more often, for longer amounts of time, while having more fun — adding movement to their lives, extending their walking commute, or helping them to enjoy the run for another mile or two.
The company says the system is similar to how electric bikes have made it easier to ride farther and more frequently, revolutionising urban commuting,
Project Amplify hopes to make slower running, jogging and walking easier and more fun, with a focus on athletes running between a 10- and 12-minute mile pace.
