'Free Willy' Trainer To Release Captive Dolphins
Following a dramatic rescue and nearly two years of rehabilitation these bottleneck dolphins have been declared ready for release.

Tom and Misha were rescued by international wildlife charity, Born Free after spending six years in a small, filthy pool in Hisaronu, Turkey.

Marine mammal expert, Jeff Foster and his team have spent 20 months of painstaking rehabilitation to increase the dolphin's levels of fitness and revert them back to a diet of live fish.

The dolphins are now fit and healthy and hunting their own food.

Jeff said: "You can sense that Tom and Misha are ready to go. Our work in preparing them for the chance of life back in the ocean has reached its conclusion.

"When the dolphin's sea pen is finally unzipped they'll be free to leave. I hope they will swim off and don't look back."

Having worked with marine mammals for over four decades, including the rehabilitation of Keiko, the orca star of the film 'Free Willy', Jeff believes that Tom and Misha's journey to freedom could provide a replicable pathway for more dolphins in the future.

In Turkey to help with final preparations for the release, Programme Director for the Born Free Foundation said: "This has been a long journey for all involved. Waving Tom and Misha off will be a high point in my 20 years working for animals."

When asked for the official date of the dolphins release Born Free's spokesperson, Kate Chapman said: "I'm afraid we don't have a definitive date for the release of the dolphins as the project is top secret, but it is imminent."

Tom and Misha will have satellite tags fitted at the time of their release and their progress will be tracked by the Rehabilitation team.

The men were trapped in the hold while preparing the hulk for her last voyage to the breakers. Others who went to the rescue were also overcome. The rescue men were brought ashore by the cable railway - sole link between the ' Warspite ' and land. The hulk has been in Prussia Cove since the war ship was wrecked in 1947 while on the way to the breakers.

PICTURE SHOWS:- One of the rescued men, strapped to a stretcher, is brought ashore by the cable railway from ' Warspite '. background, fourth from right is Mr.H.Scrivener , Cornwall's deputy fire chief, who directed rescue operations. The men not in uniform are workmates of the injured man.
